DISCLAIMER:
All practitioners, organizations, and experts appear in this
directory on the basis of their own expression of interest in
the field of alternative mental health. Each practitioner
has answered a questionnaire to determine his or her practices
and views. Please be aware that no attempt has been made
to verify the information provided or to ascertain
competence, professional credentials or business practices.
Listing in this directory does not constitute a recommendation
by AlternativeMentalHealth.com and no suggestion is made that
any specific practitioner listed can or will cure or prevent any
disease or mental disorder.
Anyone
consulting a practitioner on this list should approach such
consultation exactly as they would any other unknown
practitioner.
The
practitioners listed have completed our questionnaire
and stated they meet our criteria,
which is primarily no psychosurgery, no shock treatment, little
or no drugs, and no "talk therapy". The
possibility always exists they may refer a client to a doctor
who does not meet this criteria. If you are ever told you
should receive a form of treatment that you do not want, such as
shock treatment, talk therapy, or unnecessary drugs, remember
you always have the right to decline such treatment.

The Wannabee
Foundation is a Non Profit organization committed to helping
children and to assist parents to manage the many challenges
facing families who live with young highly sensitive children.
Many highly
sensitive children may be diagnosed/misdiagnosed as having
Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder, Autism, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
The immune
system can be weakened by exposure to chemicals, stress,
anxiety, negative thoughts, highly refined foods and other
pollutants, and many children show an amazing recovery when
their immune system is strengthened and their brain is receiving
the right nutrients, their body is having plenty of exercise and
they have a strong sense of self esteem.

two-fold: the urinary assessment of brain chemicals, called
neurotransmitters, that serve as biomarkers for many mental health
conditions, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, and many
others. This non-invasive test gives clinicians the ability to
measure biochemical imbalances that may be lending to their
problems.
Secondly, we have developed all natural, non-prescription formulas
that specifically target the imbalances unique to mental health
issues.
Our mission is to "Optimize human health through the nervous

Based
on the Orthomolecular, Naturopathic and Addiction Medicine Models.
We are a residential facility designed help
a person taper off of psychiatric medications.
We employ the service of an Orthomolecular
doctor with forty years experience in this capacity.
Through the use of brain chemistry testing, we isolate
imbalances. We then
seek to create balance through the use of naturally occurring substances
specifically aimed at correcting those imbalances,
thereby countering the need for medications and offsetting addictive
biochemistry.
We work with people who are on antipsychotics,
benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and pain
medications. The
standard program duration ranges from four to twelve weeks.
In this time, under the guidance of a board certified
psychiatrist, the medication is tapered.
The client spends their time on course learning clinical
nutrition, participating in inventive physical exercise and
stretching, working with a counselor, focus groups, acupuncture,
supervised client outings, or working with a needs specialist, and
is free to enjoy activities of their own choosing.
Each client is viewed as a success story, and we
individualize the treatment that best tells that story along the
way.

Windhorse
programs have been successful in reducing hospitalization, as an
alternative to group care, and for structured support in daily
living towards greater independence and significant recovery. We
work with those experiencing extreme mind states which may be
labeled as: Schizophrenia, BiPolar Disorder, Severe Depression, or
Severe Anxiety.
A
Whole Person Approach to Restoring Connections
At
every level of Windhorse care the intent is to take into account
each aspect of the client’s situation, working towards integration
and balance. For a person needing intensive support, we offer a full
clinical team that works with clients in home environments we create
with them in the community. For a person wishing to remain at home
locally, work with a smaller team or a single clinical mentor might
be most beneficial. All services are fully integrated with the
community. All clinical work is done within the context of a
team that forms partnerships with family members and other health
professionals involved with the client. Our focus is to connect and
integrate each aspect of the client’s care, continually viewing
his or her situation as a whole.
Integrative
Medicine
It
is a basic premise of our approach that the health of the mind and
the body are closely linked. A wellness nurse consults to each team,
emphasizing the cultivation of life-long habits of good health. If
medications are being used initially, she works closely with the
client’s psychiatrist to optimize medication regimens by
integrating medication with other health enhancing measures.
When appropriate, a long-term effort to reduce or eliminate
medications can be considered.
Community
Life
All
clients are full members in the Windhorse therapeutic community. We
invite clients to participate in an array of educational events,
classes, discussion groups, celebrations and social activities.
Activities include: Yoga, hiking, a writing group, a wellness group,
games nights, potluck dinners, volunteer opportunities, internships,
and community council. Whenever possible, activities are drawn from
the community at large to promote integration.

Residents are called "students" instead of patients.
"Each person is
on an individually prescribed regimen of vitamins, minerals, and amino
acids to normalize brain chemistry prescribed by our nutritional
consultant, who is an M.D., after biochemical testing is performed.
Medication is also used to help control symptoms but a smaller doses is
usually possible when the person follows our lifestyle."
"As a rule,
schizophrenic patients dislike taking psychoactive drugs because of the
unpleasant side effects. The Earth House goal of substantially
reducing or eliminating the need for these medicines is a strong
